Good Company Freiburg brought the extraordinary musical "Yeast Nation: The Triumph of Life" to the stage. "Yeast Nation" takes us into the quirky world of the first yeast colony, living in the primordial soup 3.5 billion years ago. It's a story of survival, leadership, and unexpected love, all set to captivating rock music.
My Role in Bringing the Looks to Life
I had the great pleasure of supporting the team in creating the visual elements for this musical. One of the most exciting tasks was performing a quick body-painting change for nine actors during the show. They had to be back on stage in just three minutes. Designing the characters for "Yeast Nation" was a wonderful challenge. Each yeast character, all named "Jan," required a unique yet cohesive design to reflect their individual personalities while maintaining the fantastic, primordial aesthetic of the piece. From Jan-the-Elder with his authoritative presence to Jan-the-Sly, who is cunning and scheming—the makeup and body painting needed to tell a part of their story.
Yeast nation goes Hamburg
Another highlight was the guest performance of "Yeast Nation" in Hamburg, Germany's musical capital. This gave the Freiburg troupe the opportunity to showcase the innovative artistic elements of the production, which were met with great acclaim.
